Someone once said "In a world where you can be anything, be kind", and this couldn't be more true. We should all be striving to be kinder each and every day, especially in the current times, where everyone has difficult days. A little kindness can go a really long way, and even inspire someone else to carry on the kindness train.
It's easy to question whether we will really be able to have an impact or to think that without money we can't make a real difference, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I know that, personally, receiving a text from someone with a message of encouragement means just as much, if not more, than something of monetary value. Everyone has heard it before, but "it's the thought that counts".
Kindness day in the UK is on the 13th November, but that doesn't mean that we can't be kind for the remaining 364 days of the year!
There are, of course, hundreds of acts of kindness that we can do on a daily basis to make someone's day, or to do good for the world, but here are a few ideas of things that can be done, particularly during a pandemic!
Send someone a message of encouragement
Pray for/with someone
Cook/bake something for someone
Keep in touch with someone who is lonely - on a 1:1 walk, on the phone, write emails or even letters!
Let someone with fewer items go ahead of you in the queue
Send a message of gratitude to a colleague or a friend
Write a positive comment or review for someone (maybe a local business)
Support vulnerable neighbours or friends - do their shopping, help with the garden, etc.
Contact someone you haven't spoken to in a while
Help a colleague with their work
SMILE
Pick up some litter while on a walk
Send someone a message with something that will make them laugh (photo, image, video, gif, etc.)
Help with chores around the house
Let a car go in front of you
Pay for the shopping/food/coffee order of the person behind
Send someone a thoughtful gift/care package
Sponsor something - an animal, tree, child, or something else!
Donate to the food bank
Fulfill/sponsor a make a wish dream
Order from a local business
Donate to a charity
Buy something for a homeless person (food, drink, blanket...)
Donate money or resources to a school
Anonymously post some money through a friend's door
